Clinical Experience with a Urine Precipitation Test for Intestinal Perforation
Abstract
A simple ward test which could be relied on to aid in the diagnosis of an intestinal perforation would be of great value.
Such test was apparently cescribed by McCraw et. al in 1965.
This encouraging report led us to test its conclusion in a clinical trial.
It resulted in as follows:
A urine precipitation test upon the excretion of diatrizoate absorbed from the peritoneal cavity gave positive results in 2 of 13 patients, but in 11 patients with perforation of the stomach, duodenum or small intestine the test gave negative results.
In this study the diatrizoate precipitation test was no value in the diagnosis of the intestinal perforation.
